The founders of FloJa Malawi: Floor & Jan
In 2007, Dutch couple Floor Willemen and Jan de Groot took the initiative to found the Floja project. Floor is originally from Drunen and Jan was born in Vleuten.
In Malawi the project is called "FloJa Foundation", and in the Netherlands it is known as the "FloJa Malawi Foundation". The name is of course a combination of the first names of the founders Floor and Jan.
Without these two beautiful people, the entire FloJa Malawi project would not have existed.
For years Floor and Jan lived and worked with an inspiring passion and huge commitment in the fishing village of Ngara, in the north of Malawi. In those years, they laid the foundations for a healthy and well-run kindergarten. After doing this for seven years it was time for a new challenge, and the upbringing of their two children, son Tjobi and daughter Jula.
And so it came to be that in the beginning of 2016 they travelled back to the Netherlands and turned the project over to André Oudhuis and Paulien van Musscher.
They are still involved in the foundation even though living in the Netherlands. Also, many of the people who supported Floor and Jan from within the Netherlands at the time are to this day still very actively involved in the foundation. We are very happy and grateful for that. Supplemented with the volunteers that André and Paulien have added to the foundation, we now have a beautiful group of volunteers, spread over the Netherlands, who are committed to this beautiful project!
Together we make a bright future for the children of FloJa Malawi and their community!
