Floor worked for 8 years with mentally handicapped people in a nursing capacity. After this period she changed direction and worked for a travel agency and then as a shop manager at the Fair Trade Shop. The last few months leading up to their departure Floor worked as a care assistant. In preparation for the FloJa Malawi Project she took a tropical course at the Haven Hospital in Rotterdam at the end of 2007.

Jan de Groot is from a real gardeners family. They had an estate in Vleuten for years and after Jan moved to Drunen he worked his way up to manager of an estate in Zaltbommel. He has 20 years experience working in the agricultural and horticultural sector.

The combination of work experience, world wide trips and their view of life helped bring Floor and Jan to the decision to start this project. The whole enterprise is being run on a purely voluntary basis.
